WASHINGTON (MarketsXplora) – Former U.S. President Donald Trump is in talks to speak at the upcoming Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, according to a report from Axios on Monday, signaling the growing importance of cryptocurrency policy in the upcoming presidential election.

Citing two people familiar with the matter, Axios reported that Trump might join a roster of speakers that includes presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., former candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and Republican Senators Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn.

A source close to the situation confirmed to MarketsXplora that Trump was invited to the conference but could not verify whether the former president would attend or speak.

Brian Hughes, Trump’s senior advisor, told MarketsXplora in an emailed statement,

“Crypto innovators and others in the technology sector are under attack from Biden and Democrats. While Biden stifles innovation with more regulation and higher taxes, President Trump is ready to encourage American leadership in this and other emerging technologies.”

Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election, has recently increased his support for cryptocurrency. At a Mar-a-Lago event earlier this month, he pledged to advocate for bitcoin mining if elected, citing its contribution to energy grid stability. He also expressed willingness to accept political donations in cryptocurrency and vowed to halt what he termed “Joe Biden’s crusade to crush crypto.”

The former president’s potential appearance at Bitcoin 2024 comes as cryptocurrency policy emerges as a significant issue in the upcoming election. Both campaigns are actively engaging with the crypto community, albeit with different approaches.

Interestingly, President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign has reportedly been reaching out to members of the crypto industry for guidance on digital asset policies, marking a shift from the administration’s previously cautious stance on cryptocurrency.

As the two candidates prepare to face off in a CNN-hosted debate on Thursday, crypto advocacy group Stand with Crypto has launched a petition urging CNN to question both candidates on their crypto positions. The group cited the recent passage of the Republican-led FIT 21 bill in the U.S. House, which aims to regulate the crypto industry and garnered support from 71 Democrats, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

As the Bitcoin 2024 conference approaches and the presidential campaign intensifies, all eyes will be on how both Trump and Biden position themselves on crypto policy, potentially shaping the future of digital asset regulation in the United States.
