Spot Ethereum ETFs are expected to begin trading on Tuesday, July 23, according to multiple sources and industry analysts.

Key Insights

  • Spot Ethereum ETFs are expected to begin trading on Tuesday, July 23, according to multiple sources and industry analysts.
  • The SEC has asked issuers to submit final S-1 filings by Wednesday, July 17, at 5:30 p.m. EST, with effectiveness requests due the following Monday.

NEW YORK (MarketsXplora) – Spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are likely to begin trading on Tuesday, July 23, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

The anticipated launch date was first reported by Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas on social media platform X, and subsequently confirmed to The Block by sources at two ETF issuers.

“Hearing SEC finally gotten back to issuers today, asking them to return final S-1s on Wed (incl fees),” Balchunas posted on X on Monday. “And then request effectiveness on Monday after close for a Tuesday 7/23 launch.”

One source specified that the filings are due Wednesday by 5:30 p.m. EST.

Major financial institutions, including BlackRock and Fidelity, have been in ongoing discussions with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for weeks, aiming to launch their spot ether ETFs at the earliest opportunity. The SEC approved key regulatory filings from applicants in late May, marking a significant step towards the launch of these new financial instruments.

However, before trading can commence, the regulator must also approve the applicants’ S-1 filings.

The push for spot Ethereum ETFs follows the successful launch of spot bitcoin ETFs in January. These new products would allow investors to gain exposure to Ethereum’s price movements without directly purchasing the cryptocurrency.

As news of the potential launch circulated, the price of ether, Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency, surged 6.5% to $3,459 over the past 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.
