LONDON (MarketsXplora) – Watford Football Club, a London-based team currently playing in the EFL Championship, is set to sell approximately 10% of the club to investors, including fans, in a digital equity offering facilitated by investment platforms Republic and Seedrs.

The club, valued at 175 million GBP, aims to raise upwards of 17.5 million GBP through the sale, with shares priced at 12.44 GBP each. Investors can purchase a minimum of four shares through Seedrs or eight shares through Republic.

As part of the offering, investors will have the option to receive tokens and access exclusive offers, with the club planning to facilitate the future trading of these tokens.

Watford F.C. Chairman and CEO Scott Duxbury said,

“We are always looking at ways that we can help grow Watford FC to deliver on our plans and are proud to be the first major English football club to offer true ownership shares to a wide range of investors, including fans, through digital equity. We are determined to take the club back to the Premier League and believe this is an innovative and inclusive way of helping this happen.”

The capital raised from the sale will be used to fund initiatives aimed at improving the club’s performance, with a focus on recruitment, training, and coaching for the men’s first team. Additionally, the funds will support the development of the club’s brand.

According to Republic, “the sale is, to date, the largest digital equity offering to unlock true ownership shares in an English football club.”

Watford F.C. has spent over half of the last ten seasons in the English Premier League and reported a pre-tax profit of 24.1 million GBP in the 22/23 season. The club’s Honorary Life-President is the renowned musician Sir Elton John.
